At the training session, several important points were made by the overall leader of
the group. He clearly stated that he did not hold himself out to be an accomplished
transformational leader, but believed that changes in the way in which the unit was
led were absolutely necessary, and said he was going to make an all-out personal effort
to change his own leadership behaviors. He once again shared hisMLQ feedback and his
personal action plan with all participants and asked for feedback and suggestions. He
frequently made the point that this development program was not something being done
“to” anyone, but rather “for” everyone. He also made the point that he did not expect to
see radical overnight changes in everyone, but that everyone would give their best effort.
He made it clear that the MLQ would be re-administered in the future and performance
appraisals and salary increases would be linked to evidence of efforts to improve.
