As shown from the above results, the traditional teaching methods which focus on teaching to ‘the middle’ and which do not take into consideration students’ needs, seem to widen the achievement gap between students from different social backgrounds in a short period of time, whereas differentiated instruction accomplished to maintain the size of the achievement gap between students from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Additionally, the results of the study indicate that differentiated instruction did not have an effect on the achievement levels of students from different socioeconomic groups. Although the above results do not suggest the narrowing of the achievement gap by employing differentiated instruction, nevertheless they reveal that if it is used constantly and consistently for a certain period of time, then there might be a possibility of narrowing this gap in the long run.
