The mass transfer rates as a function of the air-side heat transfer
coefficient (50–90 W/m2 C) are shown in Fig. 1 for refrigerant
temperatures of 8, 14, and 20 C, an air temperature of 7 C,
and a relative humidity of 60%. The mass transfer rate was measured
experimentally for air velocities of 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 m/s.
The mass transfer rate of water vapor was also calculated from
the mathematical model of Ye et al. [28]. The experimentally measured
and calculated mass transfer rates were in good agreement
(with an error of less than 8%). However, as the refrigerant temperature
decreased, the agreement between the experimental and calculated
mass transfer rates worsened. The mathematical model of
Ye et al. [28] assumes that all properties within a control volume
are the average of the inlet and outlet conditions. As the temperature
difference between the air and the cold surface increases, so
does the variation in the temperature and humidity within the
control volume and the accuracy of the model prediction becomes
worse. According to the experimental results, when the refrigerant
