The data come from the third wave of a large-scale longitudinal study of aging families of adults with schizophrenia living in Wisconsin. In the larger study, mothers were the primary respondents and eligible to participate if they were 55 years or older and provided at least weekly assistance to an adult son or daughter with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. At the third wave of the study, 248 mothers participated. In addition, one father and two siblings participated because they had assumed the primary caregiving role as a result of the mother's death or declining health. A sibling substudy was added at the third wave to examine the role of siblings as future caregivers.
