Dear Host Family Hello everyone there. My name is Nina Petchprapa, or you can call me ‘Nina’. I live in Bangkok, Thailand. My family has five members, dad, mom, an elder brother and sister and me, the youngest of this family. My dad is an architect, my mom is an ex-architect too but works in her own business. Although we live far apart from each other, my sister and I are very close. Ninee is eight years older than me. Before she went to study abroad in the United States, we played together everyday. I love her so much. I do not have many household responsibilities. I have to take care of my dogs, such as taking them for walks and feeding them. However, since this school term I have been staying at the new schools dormitory. I have to learn a lot by myself and from the lessons in my family. I am studying in tenth grade at the College at the Asian University, Chonburi. The school is a new school which is not small in size, but it was founded in a small society. It is built in rural area surrounded by woods, fresh air, and stands nearby the gulf of Thailand. This year is my first year here. I left my old school where I had studied for eleven years to this new school. At first, I was a bit nervous to meet new people. But after I have met my new classmates, we became friends in a short time. During free times at school, we usually play kid’s games like hide-and-seek and tag. We also play sports like badminton and jogging, and we like to cycle or walk around the school. At night, we study, do homework or relax in the dorm room with our roommate. But if we want extra studies, there are revising sessions from our teachers in study room downstairs. Since I came to this school, I have joined many activities such as debating on Soonthorn Phu memorial day, spelling competition, participating in khim (Thai musical instrument) and violin shows, and being nominated student of the month in June and August by gaining the most “house points” in that month. I think I am a good-natured person who has a sense of humor, although I can be blunt. I am not extremely polite, but I know boundaries and am respectful. My friends usually say that I am outgoing and extroverted. However, in certain situations or when I am with certain people, I can be nervous to speak with them for no reason. During my free time, I love to read books and comic books, surf the internet, play games and drawing. Comic books have such a bond with me. I have read them since I was little and have become addicted. Then I found that I wanted to do something related to it. So I practice my drawing skills myself by copying comics and other arts. Last summer, I had joined a Comic Fight on the website. You design your own characters, draw their introduction and post them on the forum. Then the referee will pair you to another competitor. They will give us the scenic descriptions, facts, bonus items, and obstacles we have to draw. After that, we take turns to draw our characters to fight with the other’s characters based on the story. I won my first match! But mom did not want me to keep going with this competition because the school began again then, and she wants me to concentrate with my study. So I had to forfeit in the second round :’( . I also like to go to cosplay events and go on vacations. Besides drawing, I am also interested in Japanese pop-rock music and other Japanese cultures. Thus, Japan is the country that I have dreamt of visiting since I was little. I think that with my ability, I can spread Thai culture to be recognized and make foreigners want to come to Thailand to see the real stuff. I am sure that I can bring knowledge and experience back to help developing my country, and to make every one know of the quality of Thai people. Finally, thank you a lot for taking your time to read this letter. I hope to hear from you soon. Please do not hesitate to ask me if you want to know more about me. Since I am inexperienced, please advise me as well. Warmest Regards, Nina Petchprapa
