JACKSON-On February 2, 2015 at 12:01 pm, officers responded to the report of an explosion at the boiler room at Bella Terra located at 2 Kathleen Drive. Emergency personnel from the fire department and first aid also responded. Responding officers discovered that a 49 year old male was injured when one of the boilers in the boiler room he was working on exploded. He was transported to KMC for treatment.
The Office of Emergency Management, Fire Department and PEOSHA were notified to investigate the incident.
With temperatures in the teens, arrangements were made by Bella Terra to evacuate the residents of the facility as there was no heat due to the explosion.
At approximately 10:00 pm, Bella Terra contacted headquarters for assistance in evacuating approximately 75 residents which were still at the facility. Jackson Police Officers along with personnel from OEM, Fire Station 55, officers from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, Monmouth County EMS and Jackson First Aid assisted in evacuating the remaining residents to an area hotel. The assist was completed at approximately 2:00 am.
