There was a very small but significant (p < 0.001) effect of water
temperature on the percentage of necrotic leaf material in the
35 C experiment: there was an increase in necrotic tissue in the
ambient and a decrease of necrotic leaf material in the 35 C treatment.
In the 40 C there was no significant effect of temperature
treatment on necrotic tissue. In the 43 C treatment there was a
significant temperature species interaction (p < 0.001). For all
species, there was a significant (p < 0.001) and large increase in
necrotic tissue in the 43 C treatment compared to the ambient
treatment and this was a consistent trend among species.
