Comparison of the mean growth of both species among
pools revealed faster growth of A. lanipes, a filter feeder
and scraper, while the mean growth of X. elongata, a
shredder and grazer, was similar among pools and
across time. As expected, shrimp in warmer waters grew
faster than those in cooler waters. These observations
are the first to document a significantly higher growth
rate for A. lanipes than for X. elongata over a range of
temperatures, pools, densities and time.
