Q. I've received an e-mail/cell phone message informing me of a lottery win. Is this genuine?
A. Sorry but no, this will probably not be genuine. Prize notifications are often the work of spammers, who are hoping to get your personal details, bank details or even money from you. When you receive an e-mail/cell phone message notifying you of a lottery win, ask yourself whether you participated in the lottery. In our experience, there has never been a case of a lottery that offers players prizes without asking them to pay or at the very least register for entry in the first place.
We recommend that when receiving a message informing you of a win, if you don't recognize the sender, simply delete it. Certainly don't respond to it, reveal your identity or any other personal details and most importantly, don't pay any money in order to collect a prize.
