Implementation
As in the planning stage,
implementation of the Direct- Instruction Model to teach generalizations, principles and rules is similar to using the model to teach concepts. During the introductory phase the teacher provides an overview of new content, establishes link with students’ background knowledge, and helps students understand the value of the new content. During the presentation phase, the teacher describes the topic, explains the concepts embedded in the abstraction, and uses examples to help students understand the relationships described in it. Guided practice allows students to experiment with the topic, and independent practice provides additional examples to develop automaticity and transfer.
