PHB accumulation ability of Bacillus sp. CYR1 is carbon source
dependent. Although all toxic substrates supported biomass
growth to the comparable levels, but some substrates were poorer
substrates for the PHB accumulation (Table 1). This may be due to
the different bioavailability of these substrates to the medium and
different efficiency in utilization of these substrates by the Bacillus
sp. CYR1. Hoffmann et al. (2000) reported many bacteria can consume
a large number of aromatic compounds, but they cannot
always accumulate PHB.
