Subject: Points of Caution Concerning Information Security (No. 1)
Dear colleagues:
On June xx we sent out a notification "Requesting Thorough Warning of Employees about Targeted Attack E-mails." We will be sending out several notifications, including this one, about the points of caution concerning information security, including targeted e-mail attack countermeasures.
1. Be extra careful of unexpected company information leakage
In addition to virus infections from targeted attacks, there are other ways that company information can be unexpectedly leaked, such as when an e-mail is sent to a mistaken address. In order to reduce the risks of such leaks and to minimize the damage when a leak should occur, please note the following points.
(1) Reduce the sending of files by e-mail to a minimum.
(2) When sending important information outside the company, protect it with a password that is at least eight characters long and contains a mix of alphanumeric characters.
2. In the case of virus infections caused by targeted attacks, our company not only incurs damages such as leaking of information, but we may also become a "perpetrator" as described in the following cases.
Customer information may be contained in the information that was leaked and our management responsibility will be questioned.
The personal computer that was infected by the virus may be used to attack third parties.
It is said that 90 percent of targeted e-mail attacks use free e-mail addresses (xxx@gmail.com, etc.). If you receive an e-mail from a sender using a free e-mail address, be very careful before opening any attachments or clicking on any links.
If there any suspicious signs, contact the people in charge of information security, such as the IS department. If you cannot contact the people in charge of information security right away, then contact the following:
