poteen is a clear spirit that was traditionally distilled in homemade pot stills throughout Ireland. It was originally made with malted barley or any other available grain, though potatoes were also used. One of the few to survive is Knockeen Hills. Its spirit is bottled at three strengths: triple distilled at 60% and 70% ABV, and quadruple- distilled at 90% ABV. It should not be brunk neat.
