Technology is here to stay, and we must realize that we need to use it effectively in content classrooms. The challenge for me is to show my students how seamlessly technology, along with literacy, can be used as a tool to create academically engaging content lessons. I consider myself a “first-wave adopter” or self-starter, as Hagner (2000, online document) classifies types of technology implementers among college faculty.
This may be because of my philosophy that we need many ways to learn. Again, Abraham Maslow is my guide. So while I am a product of the industrial age, I am also intrigued by the “information-age mindset” (Frand, 2000). I chose to dive into the new age, to embrace technology and apply it in my courses.
