A percentile expresses the percentage of persons in the standardization sample who scored below a specific raw score. For example, on the vocabulary test depicted in table 3.2, 94 percent of the sample fell below a raw score of 25. Thus, a raw score of 25 would correspond to a percentile of 94, denoted as P94. Note that higher percentiles indicate higher scores.
