14-3-3 protein was a highly conserved acidic protein family that could interact with over 2 000 target proteins and take in nearly all the major physiological processes in cells (Aitken 2006). As a key sucrose-metabolism enzyme, SPS activity could be down-regulated by 14-3-3 protein in spinach, tobacco and potato (Toroser et al. 1998; Bornke 2005; Zuk et al.2005). Similarly, the possible 14-3-3 protein-binding site on SPS in tomato has been analysed through the bioinformatics method (Yu and Cui 2010).
