Effect of GAE in human epidermal equivalents
To more closely approximate human usage, a reconstructed human skin model was used to investigate the
depigmenting activity of GAE. Kojic acid was the positive
standard, consistent with its common use for skin depigmentation therapy. As shown in Fig. 5, the level of
melanin decreased significantly following GAE treatment.
The depigmenting activity of 200 μg/mL GAE was comparable to that of 2 % kojic acid.
