Statistics show that the incidence of traffic accidents in Japan is high However, the mortality rate is only 0.9 per 100 traffic accidents, the lowest level among OECD member countries. In Korea, on the other hand, the mortality rate is 3.0, more than three times that of Japan. This difference is because of the higher rate of pedestrian mortality in Korea: 40% of those who died in traffic accidents in Korea were pedestrians, and this percentage is the highest among the OECD member countries. However, the mortality rate for passengers riding in cars is the lowest, at 23.8%. This difference indicates how Korean transportation practices do not maintain order and are not considerate of pedestrians
