Manchester United have not only rejected Real Madrid’s most recent offer of €18m for David De Gea, they have responded by saying that they wish to sign Madrid legend Sergio Ramos, as per the Guardian.
The 29-year-old has an official buyout clause of €180m, or £128m, yet the Spaniards contract expires in 2017 and United believe that they can sign the player without having to pay such an extensive figure.
Ramos has played for Madrid for 10 seasons now, and has played over 400 games at the Bernabeu, yet talks over a contract extension have stalled for some time.
United are in the hunt for a centre-back after some noticeable frailties last season, and have also been strongly linked with the likes of Nicolas Otamendi and Mats Hummels.
Signing Real Madrid’s hero, Sergio Ramos, does seem rather preposterous, yet United do have leverage in terms of David De Gea. It all depends on just how much De Gea is wanted in the Spanish capital.
