But the cost of fighting the wars in north America and Europe had put a serious strain on the Britain economy. So naturally, Britain thought that the colonies should help pay for some of the cost of the war. In the years following the war, the Britain passed a number of laws which not only taxed a variety of goods being imported to the colonies or used in the colonies, but also placed control on life in the colonies in general. Some of them were
1. wishing to avoid conflict with Native Americans, Britain passed a law in 1763 which started that no new settlements could be built west of a certain point.
2. The Sugar Act of 1765 which placed a tax on all printed materials int he colonies.
3.The Quartering Act which started that colonies had to pay for British soldiers to stay at their homes.
