The adult Titiwai is a fungus gnat that has a short life. It is not able to eat, and exists simply to find a mate. The female lay her fertilised (ผสมพันธ์) eggs under overhanging banks. Then dies. The egg hatches into a larva which live in its silken hammock for many months. The larva drops sticky silk threads to catch small flying insects for its food. Which it attracts with its living fluorescent. Nature's jewels.
