It is a soil actinomycete (Streptomyces griseochromogenesI)
product used to control the rice blast caused by Pyricularia oryzae by foliar
application (23). Blasticidin-S is a contact fungicide possessing protective and
curative action. Three formulations viz., dustable powder (DP), emulsifiable
concentrate (EC) and wettable powder (WP) of blasticidin-S are sold under the
name Bla-S by Kaken, Kumiai and Nihon Noyaku.
