In this paper, we present the results of a coordinated con- tainment strategy implemented by the Andalusian Regional Government (Consejeria de Medio Ambiente) based on the con- struction of artificial barriers in order to stop the advance of P. clarkii into the southernmost European population of the endangered A. pallipes. To our knowledge, this is the first experiment of dam con- struction specifically designed to contain the invasion of an exotic crayfish in natural ecosystems. According to Kerby et al. (2005), the main underlying hypothesis was that physical structures could at least temporally halt the upstream spread of P. clarkii
