The aim of this study was to make an environmental assessment
of the new food packaging film based on chitosan and compares its
environmental load with a commercial PP film that is usually used
for food packaging purposes. The functional properties of the
system based on chitosan were studied previously by Leceta et al.
(in press). The study showed that functional properties of
chitosan-based films were adequate for food packaging purposes,
being the film with 15% wt glycerol the one that exhibited the best
functional properties.
