These eight principles were later organized in three kinds of virtues, as follows:
(1) Morality (śīla): speech, action, livelihood
(2) Meditation (dhyāna): effort, mindfulness, concentration
(3) Insight or wisdom (prajña): views and thought.
The Eightfold Path thus entails a moral foundation for meditation and eventual enlightenment. We can also see ethical values in this that govern ideal human conduct.
