Guideline : Alpha Presentation
Goal:
Students learn to prioritize the game production effort during the alpha phase of the project on tasks which contribute to the creation of the game’s first set of content and playthrough. Students are able to carry out processes of making the most critical part of the game content which would allow them to understand how their game content should be presented and created.
Objectives:
Students are able to present the result of the work during the alpha phase of the game
Students are able to deliver a game build with the first version of it’s core content
Students are able to finalize the presentation of the game within the alpha phase
Students are able to provide the action plan for the upcoming beta phase
Details:
Students prepare the mean to show the running game to the class which should reflect the focus and the work during the alpha phase, and:
Make sure to have a hardware capable of showing the game to the class available for the purpose of the presentation
Prepare the demonstration step of the game beforehand and address known issues regarding technical issues and design improvement that is still on-going
During the demonstration also explain how elements that are emerging in the game address the taste that the team has set out to develop
As each content of the game emerges, explain how each of the content fit into the context of the game and what is the pipeline required to create it
Prepare a presentation addressing the class as game sponsors who have invested in the development of the game and would like to be reassured that the development is on track and time is being spent to create the game promised for them. Detailing some following example topics and more:
What have been done so far since pre-production is finished and why all of them contribute to the end result of the project over the longer run
Lesson learned during the alpha phase of the production and how the team has put those lessons into improvements to how the team works together
Provide short version of the direction that the team will take during the beta phase
Provide references to any external material being used in the presentation
Submission Timeline:
Post a shared link of the presentation and related material: Oct 16th 24:00
Make the presentation in front of the class (20 minutes per group): Oct 18th 09:30
Evaluation:
The running version of the game contain elements necessary to conclude alpha: 50%
The demonstration of the game is smooth and well organized with good narrative: 20%
The progress presentation is clear communicate the lesson learned: 20%
The direction the team expects to take during beta shows good reasoning: 10%
