Five gram faecal samples were taken directly before administration
and after 7 weeks of intake, and were kept frozen at 18 C
for analysis. The faecal pH and concentration of faecal short-chain
fatty acids (SCFAs; including acetic, propionic and butyric acids)
were analysed according to the method described by Johansson
et al. (1998) and Olivares et al. (2006).
