In a geographic context, there are different types of metadata: object-level metadata (OLM), geolibraries, and collection-level metadata. Object-level metadata describe the contents of datasets by providing essential documentation. A geolibrary is a digital library that can be searched for information about a specific geographic location. Collection-level metadata describes the entire collection available from a single website based on general knowledge of each collection’s contents (245) [7]. Out of these three types of metadata, OLM is the most useful for providing data about data.Looking at the metadata is an important step when transferring geographic data.
