Germany had open-door policy towards people
Syrians civil war has been thrown into
confusion after Berlin announced that the hundreds
of thousands of Syrians entering to Germany would
not refugee status.Moreover, the announcement
from the interior ministry showed panic
at the top of Berlin that Syrians would only be
allowed in Germany only one year and would only
enjoy 'subsidiary protection' which limits their
rights as refugees and without any family unification.
In addition, Germany, along with Sweden and Austria
have been open countries in Europe to take newcomers
over the last six months. So,Berlin was starting
to transit countries and limiting their own intake
of refugees as 'a win for security and order for
Germany'.The apparent major policy shift in Berlin
followed a crisis meeting of partners decided
against setting up called'transit zones' of
refugees on Germany's borders.Until now almost
forty thousands Syrians as well as Iraqis and
Eritreans entering to Germany have been virtually
guaranteed full refugee status, meaning the right
to stay at least three years, include family members
to join them and generous welfare benefits.Berlin
is the most powerful advocate of sharing the
refugee burden across the EU,but has problem
with other countries of unilateral decisions that
have had effects across the union.
