MAINTENANCE
PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
Satisfactory long-term performance of a equipment requires proper maintenance and lubrication. The factory filled all gearboxes with the appropriate lubrications and greased all bearings before shipping the equipment.
Use the following lubrication recommendations for proper maintenance of the equipment’s working components. Use a high quality lubricant as recommended. (Refer to SSP Pump-5.0 commissioning) Some additives may not be compatible, do not mix different grease types. When changing grease types, completely flush the unit to prevent cross contamination between the different grease types.
SPRAY NOZZLE MAINTENCE
The spray nozzles being supplied are of Stainless Steel material, which have better wear resistance. But in order to keep your application running at maximum efficiency to produce the highest-quality finished profut, nozzle maintenance must become a regular part of day-to-day operations,
Fortunately, there are guidelines that can help you prevent and maintain the best spray nozzle for your production and finishing applications.
1. Reducing Wear damage to the orifice during cleaning by using cleaning probes made of materails softer then the nozzle surface. Bristle brushes or wooden and plastic probes are generally appropriate. Avoid wire brushes, pocketknives, or welders’ tip cleaning rasps.
WHEN TO CHANGE THE NOZZLES
1. By Periodic Flow Rate checks
As an orifice wears, the flow rate from a nozzle typically increases. Periodic flow rate checks help you detect the unnoticeable deterioration. What’s involved with a flow rate check? aSimply monitor flow meter readings, or collect and measure the spray from the spray nozzle for a given period of time at a specific pressure . Compare the reading to the flow rate readings of new unused nozzles.
2. By Visual Inspection of Spray Pattern
When the deterioration of a nozzle is advance, visual inspection easily reveals changes in the uniformity of flat spray patterns, which are caused by orifice famage, clogging, or caking. In case where the orifice dis wearing gradually, vhanges in the spray pattern may not be detected until the flow has changed substantially and has incurred unnecessary time and uneven finishing.
Examples:- With a normal flat spray pattern, the liquid is distributed as a flat fan or
Spray with tapered edges, appropriate for overlapping. Monitoring
Detects a new pattern development with heavy streaks, edges
heavier flow in the center of the pattern,
NOTE: BESURE TO WEAR PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN DOING INSPECTION!
3. By Monitoring Spray Pressured
When used with centrifugal-type pumps, the spraying pressure of a deteriorated spray nozzle remains about the same with a new nozzle, while the liquid volume spray increase and the orifice wear. If a positive displacement pump feeds your system, the volume sprayed from a wom spray nozzle remains about the same, while the spraying pressure decrease.
4. By Analysis Spray Drop Size
As the nozzle orifice wears or corrodes, flow rates increase or spraying pressure drop. Increase spray drop size that produce less total liquid surface area appear, which can decrease the quality efficiency. While an increase drop size may go undetected during pelleting stage, the problem may become apparent by finishing product.
