In conclusion, our results suggest that obesitymeasures, particularly
waist circumference, are significantly associated with glucose metabolism
and risk of (pre)diabetes even in Chinese adults classified as
having normal body weight. This association underscores the importance
of adiposity in the development of impaired glucose metabolism
and type 2 diabetes. Our findings also suggest that diabetes treatment
and prevention programs in the Chinese general population should
incorporate targeting of normal weight adults with central obesity.
