Dr. Kreuter is Professor in the Schools of Social Work and Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis and Director of the Health Communication Research Laboratory, one of five NCI Centers of Excellence in Cancer Communication Research. His research seeks to eliminate cancer disparities by increasing the reach and effectiveness of health information to low-income and minority populations, and use communication technologies to link them to cancer control services. Dr. Kreuter has a long-standing commitment to career development, especially for underrepresented minorities. From 2000-2010, he led the CDC- and NCI-funded Eliminating Health Disparities pre-doctoral fellowship program for African American graduate students in public health, providing comprehensive education and training to more than 35 fellows now making impressive contributions to health disparities research and practice across the United States.23 Translation and dissemination of evidence-based interventions is a major focus at the Health Communication Research Laboratory, and can be seen in: 1) the design and conduct of all major studies; 2) post-study efforts to accelerate adoption of effective interventions; and 3) development, publication and advocacy of a new dissemination model based on business practices around marketing and distribution systems.73 Dr. Kreuter is ideally suited to contribute to this project on the basis of his extensive work with health disparities, training, evidence-based interventions and dissemination science.
