Supply chain knowledge management is an emerging area of research. As with information, knowledge created at one point in a supply chain network should be accessible across that network. For example, demand-side information is essential for understanding market demand. However, knowing what to do with that information enables an effective and efficient response to demand. Furthermore, building up that knowledge over a period of time enable a supply chain to begin to sense and respond to actual demand. Hence, the knowledge creating supply chain is able to be market, gaining competitive advantage.
