1. Pre-Reading Activities: These activities encourage students to begin thinking about the topic of the article. They raise student interest and introduce important concepts and vocabulary using one or more skills. Designed to take at least 10 minutes, the pre-reading activities may take longer if the teacher needs to focus closely on a specific point or if there is great student interest in the topic. Estimated Time: 10 minutes or more.
2. Reading Activities: These activities focus on the article using a variety of different reading skills. They encourage students to read and understand the article, practice different reading techniques, learn vocabulary from the article and focus on a language point. Estimated Time: Up to 40 minutes.
3. Post-Reading Activities: The teacher can either focus on one skill using a theme, concept or language point or practice a combination of skills. Students use the content of the article to discuss, consider or develop what they've learned. This section offers a selection of extension activities that can take as little as 15 minutes or last well over an hour. Estimated Time: 15 minutes to one hour or more.
4. Teachers' Notes and Answer Key: Each Instant Lesson includes teaching guidelines and answers to exercises. Our goal is to support teachers by giving them as much time as possible to focus on specific learning needs. Teachers' notes may also contain parts of an exercise not included in the student handouts
