catch basin using a hydraulic fish pump equipped with a 25-cm
diameter suction pipe (Aqualife-Life pump, Magic Valley Heli-arc and
Mfg, Twin Falls, Idaho, USA). The pump was placed in a catch basin
and shrimp were pumped, de-watered and collected in a hauling
truck. Shrimp were then transferred to a laboratory located at the
same facility for quantification and packing. Shrimp were rinsed, dewatered
and bulk weighed. During the weighing process, random
samples of 150 shrimp per pond were collected for determination of
individual weight. Individual weights were used to calculate mean
final weight, survival and size distributions. After quantifying the
biomass from each pond, mean final yield (final biomass), feed
conversion ratio (total feed offered/weight gained), size distribution
and survival were determined.
An economic comparison of sales value of shrimp produced and
costs for major production input costs for select items (feed, Pl's and
electricity) were conducted to develop a partial budget over selected
costs for each treatment. Sales value was calculated by multiplying
harvested shrimp quantity by sales prices for head on shrimp based on
the size distribution of shrimp. Shrimp sales price for 22–176 count
