Edge welds are used to obtain maximum cross-section. An edge weld is a form of scarf joint, made by
chamfering the edges of the sheets at an angle of 300 degrees, butting the chamfered edges, and
welding.
Faulty Welds
Faulty welds are the result of the following errors that sometimes occur in plastic welding.
1. Overheating
2. Underheating
3. Improper root-penetration
4. Air-inclusion in the weld
5. Stretching of filler rod
6. Incorrect handling of welder
a. Wrong angle
b. Too slow or too fast travel
c. Lack of fanning motion
