packedwithfivepercentdeactivatedaluminaandanhydroussodiumsulfate.The
columnwaselutedwithn-hexane:benzene(1:1,v/v).Aftercleanup,thefinalextracts
wereconcentratedtoneardrynessusingrotaryvacuumevaporator.
Quantitative analysisoftheOC-DDTsandOC-HCHswereundertakenusingan
Agilent model6890GasChromatograph(GC)equippedwithElectronCapture
Detector (Ni63). ThecolumnusedfortheanalysiswasHP-5capillarycolumnof
0.32 mmid,0.25 mm filmthicknessand35mlength.Theoventemperature
started from150 1C withholdtimefor1min,thenincreasedto200 1C atarateof
5 1C min1 with holdtimefor5minandfinallyto290 1C atarateof10 1C min1.
The injectionporttemperaturewaskeptat285 1C andthedetectortemperature
was at300 1C. Nitrogenwasusedascarriergasataconstantflowof1mlmin1.
Nitrogen wasalsousedasamakeupgasat75mlmin1. 1 ml volumeofsamples
was injectedinsplit/splitlessmode.
The linearrangeofthedetectorwasdeterminedfrominjectionofstandard
mixtures. CalibrationlineswereperformedforalltheOCPsandtheresulting
correlation coefficients(r2) forthecalibrationcurveswereallgreaterthan0.99.
The concentrationsofindividualOCswerethenquantifiedbycomparingthepeak
