Native American Gaming. Native American gaming is a relatively new phenom- enon, brought into being by the National Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988.Since the lawwas passed, over 300 Native American casinos have opened in the United States. The largest and most successful single casino operation in the world is the Foxwoods Hotel/Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut, with gross annual operating revenues of over $1 billion. The primary reason for its success is its East Coast location, ap- proximately halfwaybetween New York City and Boston; other tribes have not fared as well.
