Type-I reaction: immunoglobulin E-mediated diseases
Type-I reactions are characterized by the interaction of an antigen with IgE antibodies bound to basophils and mast cells. This causes the release of soluble proinflammatory factors. Although no direct evidence exists that IgE antibodies are involved in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, IgE specific for self antigens have been identified in several autoimmune diseases of the skin, thyroid, pancreas, eye, connective tissues and joints.
