The rest of the trucking industry has, however, proceeded with caution regarding J.B. Hunt’s action. As a matter of fact, even J.B. Hunt has changed its compensation policy recently to lower pay to less than the 1996 levels. In other words, it appears that even they do not believe the savings in driver turnover costs is worth the higher pay scale! However, the millions of dollars in savings is not something to easily overlook, and they may have to revise the decision in the future. Further, it is to be noted that a rebound in the economy along with more restrictive hours of service regulations will increase the severity of driver shortage in the future.
