The DSHS powder shows more than ∼2% densification than that of commercial available powder (Alfa Aesar, Germany, 99.9% pure and particle size −325 mesh). The fine particles of DSHS powder enhance the sintering rate. Again in case of DSHS powders, the inhomogeneties in composition would give rise to additional chemical reaction reducing the B51Zr, ZrO2, etc., which are exothermic in nature and in the process tend to activate the sintering process. The reduction in inhomogeneties in turn tends to cause visible improvement in the purity of the products. It has been also observed that there is negligible weight loss in sintered samples (both DSHS and commercial) in HF solution (ZrO2 can be completely dissolved in HF solution) indicating high purity of samples, i.e., the samples are free from ZrO2 especially in case of DSHS sintered sample.
