Of the 65 species listed in Table 3, 63 (96.9%) of them were used to treat caries and 23 (35.4%) were remedies for periodontal diseases (the two principal reported oral ailments). The use of the plant leaves was reported most frequently (40 species [61.5%]), followed by the latex (11 species [16.9%]), the roots (11 species [16.9%]), the bark (7 species [10.8%]), fruit (6 species [9.2%]) and seed (2 species [3.1%]).
