Skin has its own chromophores like melanin to
protect itself from the UV radiation. Plants have
also their own chromophores (phenolics and
flavonoids) and, topically applied, these plant
chromophores can complement and boost
the skin cells own defense mechanisms to
overcome the photodamage caused by
solar radiation.
