BRUNEI is set to host the 44th Pacific Area Senior Officer Logistics Seminar (PASOLS). The three-day seminar, co-organised by the Ministry of Defence and the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM), will take place at the Empire Hotel and Country Club’s Indera Samudra Hall. The opening ceremony will take place September 15 and the seminar is expected to conclude on September 18. This year’s theme is “Joint Logistics”, according to a statement by the ministry. It marks the second time the sultanate is co-hosting PASOLS with the United States after hosting it in 2004. Heads and representatives of military logistics organisations from 28 nations are expected to convene at the multilateral forum for senior officer logisticians. They are expected to exchange logistics best practices, develop a cooperative security framework and establish strong relationships between each partnering country in addressing the multi-faceted challenges in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition to the seminar, there will also be a spouse’s programme for the delegates’ wives where they will be able to experience Bruneian culture. This includes a Kg Ayer river cruise and visits to the Kg Ayer River Cultural Gallery, Arts and Handicraft Centre, Royal Regalia Building, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Islamic Exhibition Gallery, Pusat Ehsan and Agro Technological Park and a cultural visit to Kg Sungai Matan. PASOLS began as a US Army initiative in 1971 with nine member nations and 28 participants and had over 120 participants in 2013.
