1. Emergency exit lights must remain operational in
the event of electrical power failure to guide
employees to the emergency exit.
2. Emergency exit lights should illuminate the
emergency exit route and emergency exit doors
using secondary power sources, such as:
a. Backup batteries included in emergency
lighting unit; and/or
b. Connection to generator that activates in
the event of a power outage.
3. Prepare for the auditor information on the
secondary power source; and
4. It is also recommended that emergency lights
be fire grade “industrial emergency lights” for
use in smoke and fire environments.
