Grab-samples of daily fresh digestate were obtained from two different fully
operating biogas facilities in June 2011 in Denmark. Biogas plant 1 (BG1) performs a
mesophilic AD technology at 37 C, while Biogas plant 2 (BG2) utilizes thermophilic
AD technology at 52 C. Biomass input for BG1 is composed of 95% swine manure
and 5% methanol/ethanol industrial wastes; biomass input for BG2 is a mixture of
75e80% swine manure, 10e20% slaughterhouse residues and 5e10% restaurant
wastes. The digestate relative dry weight (%dw), determined by loss on drying, is 4.4
and 6.1 for BG1 and BG2, respectively. Total nitrogen content of digestate, determined
by total Kjeldahl nitrogen, in kg ton1 wet weight is 4.9 and 4.0, respectively,
for BG1 and BG2
