A vegetarian diet can reduce overuse of antibiotics. Take the US as an example. 70% of
antibiotics sold here go to livestock like cows, pigs, and chickens to prevent the spread of
disease in factory farms where they live cramped together. A 2007 study from the
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences found that overuse of antibiotics in
factory farms causes antibiotic resistant bacteria to develop, which may endanger
human health.
