Hacking and hackers
Hacking is the process of accessing a computer system without permission. Hackers often access a computer system using the internet. in most cases the hacker with try to guess the users password or obtain the password another way.
Some hackers just hack to see if they can enter a secure system while others do it to commit fraud by making alterations to the data, etc. in most countries hacking is a crime but it is quite hard to prove as it is necessary for it to be proved that the hacker deliberately hacked into the system.
Sometimes special software is installed on a user’s computer without their permission and it can log the keys that the user presses, which can tell a hacker about usernames, passwords, emails, etc. This software is called spyware or key-logging software.
Protecting against hackers
Use a firewall - a firewall is hardware, software or both that will look at the data being sent or being received by your computer to either allow it through or block it.
The main purposes of firewalls are:
- To prevent hackers accessing a computer or network using the internet.
- To prevent undesirable content (e.g., pornography, violent videos, etc.) being accessed by users using the internet.
