On the one hand, the two movies are so similar, down to exact lines of dialogue, that one does have to wonder—what, exactly, was the point of remaking the movie? Reimagining and improving upon is one thing, but to take the source material and stick to it so closely makes the newer version seem borderline pointless. Sure, the special effects are better—much, much better—but that is really just to be expected with the new technology available. Still, it is important to remember that “Carrie” is based on a novel, which leaves writers very little wiggle room. There is only so much they can change before they are not staying true to Stephen King’s vision for his characters, and that would be an even worse infraction.
