The indigenous four isolated bacteria in the rice bran wereL. plantarum. The production of L-lactic acid by the strains
would lower the optical purity of lactic acid from the rice bran by SSF withL. delbrueckiiIFO 3202 at pH 6.0–6.8.
We found the growths of the indigenous strains were suppressed at the pH of 4.5–5.0. Optically pureD-lactic acid
(95% e.e.) was produced at a concentration of 28 kg m from 100 kg m defatted rice bran powder suspension at
pH 5.0 by SSF with a mixture of amylase and cellulase and L. delbrueckiiIFO 3202
